Lost.
That is what you don’t want to be, online.
As a business owner, coach or thought leader, you are probably thinking, how can I increase my brand visibility online and get in front of more people at an ever-increasing pace?
Leveraging online visibility tools can give you a competitive advantage.
Statistics show that Google accounts for 92.17% search engine market share worldwide . This translates to well over 2.3 million searches per second. So there is a great possibility of grabbing the attention of your ideal customer when you show up on Google.
You no longer have to rely on clients walking up to your store front or office building. You can literally get a client from across the globe. Now you see why having maximum online visibility is very important for your business.
Johnson has been creating and sharing content for several years on social media and his blog. Before now, when the rave was about blogging, he opened one on WordPress. He was passionate about using it to touch lives and fulfil his passions.
But one day, he starts to struggle with those clouds of despondency and helplessness on the realization that no money is coming into all his ventures in writing online. He still sees posts with one or two of his loyal friends and occasionally one from his mom! He is deeply worried and wonders if anyone actually sees him online.
He has seen how many people show up online in a short while and post “successful” pictures of their business. They post “sold-out” on their online programs and boast of making six, seven figures in 30 days. He doesn’t know how they do it but he is beginning to lose his patience and enthusiasm as discouragement has almost become “second nature”.
“Will I pay my bills with “passion?” he mused.
How long will he keep churning out content without anything to show for it?
There’s a solution to this malady. Interestingly, many of us are like Mr Johnson.
We want to be easily found in the places where discussions that relate to our goods and services are going on.
David Avrin says; “It’s not about who you know, but who knows you.”
Also, we want to be easily seen by those who really need us.
You want to enhance your online visibility because it plays a big part in positioning you as an expert in your field leading to more premium clients and ultimately, bloated bank accounts!
How Can You Increase Your Online Visibility?
Here are 9 ways to increase your online visibility and go from overlooked to overbooked. They are in no particular order.
1. Share Content Consistently:
This has become quite a cliche. However, it cannot be overemphasized. You have to be seen before you are known.
You become known in the right places, when you share relevant content related to your market. It is a recipe for frustration when you are seen where you are not needed. It is like selling iced water to an eskimo. Nothing comes out of it. Your reward will be limited to or even worse than:
“You write very well.” “You speak very well, kudos.” “Thanks for sharing.” “God bless you.”
All accolades and nothing more!
“Today it’s not about ‘get the traffic’ — it’s about ‘get the targeted and relevant traffic.” – Adam Audette, Chief Knowledge Officer, RKG.
I am yet to find out how bills are paid with all these.
2. On Page Optimization:
According to newbreedmarketing,, search engines don’t think, rather “…they scan for keywords, they look for internal links and backlinks and rank your popularity based on what other internet users think are important (among many other ranking factors).”
It is important to learn proper page optimization. This keeps you at the top of specific search results. One important aspect of this is search engine optimization (SEO). It requires more just phrases or cliches. It requires finding relevant keywords, increasing the accessibility of your website to humans and BOTs, links from more prominent websites and so on. There’s a plug-in that can help with this on WordPress called yoast SEO.
“Successful SEO is not about tricking Google. It’s about PARTNERING with Google to provide the best search results for Google’s users.” – Phil Frost, Main Street ROI.
3. Social Media Platforms:
In order to grow your online visibility, you need to go where the market is, and people are on social media. Statistics show that Instagram has over 120 million users and its twin, Facebook has over 1 billion active users. This proves that your potential audience is already on social media. But all of them aren’t for you or rather your business. If you are into beauty couture for example, a more visual inclined social media like Instagram or even TtikTtok tends to fit the bill compared to just Facebook. For Influencers, Twitter and Facebook work even more. The choice of platform is also dependent on the type of content you’re most comfortable creating – video, audio or text. So, it is up to you to recognize the most efficient way and the most effective platform place to promote your business.
4. Targeted Ads:
This is not as costly as you think. In fact, it is cheaper than what you might splurge on one Saturday evening or at that boutique. Running Facebook ads for example, will help to direct your goods and services to potential and specific clients while you route them to your website. It is something you need to budget for and oversee its facilitation. You can start with a few days after some time, you do a few days again. It is not advisable to run ads for a prolonged period.
You can also run ads to your best performing content. This warms up people to you and your brand.
5. Guest Blogging:
This is a quick shortcut to getting quality visibility even if you are a newbie. It enhances your exposure to potential clients and specific audiences. It equally affords you the benefit of having backlinks in your author bio which sends direct targeted traffic to your site or landing page, or Amazon book link.
6. Encourage Your Visitors and Clients to Leave Glowing Reviews:
This does at least two things- demonstrates your ability to deliver on your promise areas to improve on and increases the possibility of others doing business with you. The more positive reviews on your site, the more the chances that other people will like and trust you to solve their problems with your solutions.
7. Enhance Your Website Speed: In today’s world, people are becoming more impatient. The faster your site loads on their devices, the higher the possibility of them staying longer or visiting again. One way of making this possible is to optimize for specific devices. More people use their mobile phones these days to do virtually everything from placing orders on goods and services to conducting business meetings. The ongoing covid-19 pandemic has even afforded us the opportunity to explore more uses for our mobile phones and this trend is expected to continue. While you optimize for computer users, let your site be mobile friendly.
The recommended load speed for your website is under two seconds!
So if your website drags for longer, you need to fix it ASAP.
8. Behavioural Mmetrics:
Neil Patel once said that, “The foundation of your social media strategy is to understand who your target audience is and why they use social media. To do so, we need to utilize demographics and psychographics.”
One major way of tracking your performance is by using Google Analytics. Another one is crazy-egg. With these tools, you are able to analyze your visitor engagement, consumer profile, behaviour for example, their location, length of stay on your site, which page they spend more time on and so on. Crazy-egg owned by Neil Patel, for example shows you a map of the places your visitors clicked the most.
Tracking the behaviour of your site visitors will show you what is important to them and you can begin to create content and offers around that.
Content is a commitment, not a campaign.” – Joanna Lord, VP of Marketing at Porch, CMO at Skyscanner.
9. Security Consciousness: No one would be comfortable visiting a site that puts his or her gadgets at risk. If interacting with you exposes them to spam, they will run at the speed of lightning. Ensure that your visitors enjoy every scroll and click on your site. Even if they don’t intend to buy anything, the confidence of knowing they are not at risk can spur them from being not just potential clients but regular customers.
Online visibility is possible but requires deliberate effort. You can explore the free or paid methods and move a step closer to getting seen, known and well paid.
